We married in 2012, decided on Japan for our honeymoon, and bought Japan Rail passes back when they were actually very good value. Since much of Japan was still shaking off winter weather when we arrived in Tokyo in March 2012 we decided to go as far south as we could. The Shinkansen route from Osaka through to Kagoshima had opened the previous year, so Kagoshima ended up being our honeymoon destination (I suspect "Kagoshima as a honeymoon destination" is somewhat unusual.)

So, for our anniversary trip we booked the same hotel as we did for our honeymoon, this time for an entire week.

This is an image from Shiroyama Park Observation Deck (城山公園展望台). We had planned on catching the hop-on hop-off Kagoshima City View bus, however when the bus finally arrived it was packed like a sardine can, so we hiked up the walking trail instead.
