The Douaumont Ossuary and French military cemetery to the north of Verdun. The forest has mostly grown back around this
area, however some fields have been preserved from the Battle of Verdun to allow us to visualize the effect of modern
industrial war on the landscape, and of course to contemplate the effect on the people that were the target of the artillery barrages and machine-gun fire.
